Mighty Irishman Kevin O’Brien may have been hoping to hold his back after smashing a six and his window in a Twenty20 Interprovincial Trophy match on Thursday.
O’Brien’s ability to strike the ball over the string is well known, and he did so eight times in a stunning 37-ball 82 for Leinster Lightning against North-West Warriors at Pembroke Cricket Club in Dublin.
However, one of the 36-year-old’s violent beatings had the unintended consequence of smashing his vehicle’s window in the adjacent parking lot and requiring urgent repair.
Cricket Ireland highlighted the damage on their Twitter account, although O’Brien had the consolation of helping Leinster to victory.
A bellicose innings from O’Brien – part of the Irish squad who lost 2-1 in a one-day streak to England earlier this month – backed Leinster’s 124 for four in a match reduced to 12 overs in part due to rain.
The Warriors were only able to collect 104 for eight in response, helping Leinster to a 24-point Duckworth-Lewis-Stern victory in the Irish national T20 competition.
